Kuala Lumpur, 20 July 2016: Jambatan Kedua Sdn Bhd (JKSB), wholly owned by the Minister of Finance Incorporated, announces the appointment of Major (R) Ir. Mohd. Ashari Alias as the new Managing Director, replacing YBhg. Dato’ Dr. Ir. Ismail Mohamed Taib with effect from 18 July 2016.

Major (R) Ir. Mohd. Ashari Alias, 52 years old, first joined JKSB in 2009 as Construction Director, supervising the construction of Jambatan Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah (JSAHMS). In 2012, he was promoted as the Chief Operating Officer, responsible in preparing the organisation to provide its services as a highway concessionaire once the bridge had been completed and opened to the public.

His wealth in knowledge and experience while serving with the Royal Malaysian Army and other GLCs prior to this will definitely benefit JKSB in strengthening its brand name in the market and in the industry.

“As the new MD, I will continue with the efforts started by the previous MD in making Jambatan Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah (JSAHMS) as the preferred alternative route to Penang Island from the mainland and vice versa,” says Major (R) Ir. Mohd. Ashari Alias.

Since the opening to the JSAHMS in April 2014, the socio-economic developments in its vicinity, especially in Batu Kawan and Batu Maung have been so rapid, proving that the bridge is indeed a catalyst for the socio-economic development in the northern region.

“We are the first highway concessionaire to embark into a total Integrated Asset Management Systems (IAMS) for an effective cost management, monitoring and control of the invaluable assets,” continues Major (R) Mohd. Ashari.

He adds that IAMS is also a part of the Intelligent Traffic System in updating the traffic conditions at real time. Benefits on IAMS include early notification to JKSB’s Control Centre on bridge and structures safety issues, including abnormally high wind speed so that users can be immediately informed on temporary closure of the bridge, if needed.

JKSB has recently implemented the full Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) at its toll plaza in Batu Kawan, which vehicles of all classes are required to pay the toll rate by Touch ‘n Go card or SMART Tag. The 10% rebates offered to Class 1 vehicles in conjunction with the ETC implementation will ends on 31 July 2016.

The average daily traffic of JSAHMS has also increased from 12,500 vehicles a day in 2014 to more than 15,000 vehicles a day as of June 2016. The total number of vehicles using the bridge since April 2014 to June 2016 is about 10.8 million vehicles.
